It’s time for our youngest stars to shine! Our younger student performers will rehearse and perform in a musical based on the beloved Pixar adventure out in the Big Blue World! Students will get mini classes on acting, singing, dancing, character development, and will play every role in their very own production. Whether your student is a seasoned performer or this is your first time on stage, there is a spot in the cast for everyone

Musical Theatre Dance

Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to work! Throughout the week, campers will explore various styles of dance used in musical theatre, getting to try out choreography based on all sorts of amazing shows- Cats, Hamilton, Newsies- oh my! We will focus on fun, but there will be some lessons in dance technique thrown in along the way. It is sure to be a high-kicking, toe-tapping good time.

Fractured Fairytales

What if the Big Bad Wolf wasn’t so bad? What would have happened if the Wicked Stepmother ended up with the magic wand? Our culture is full of these re-imagined fairytales and we just can’t get enough! This camp will explore theater and art activities based on classic fairytales as well as giving the campers the opportunity to create their own original stories. What makes a hero or a villain? Who decides what it means to live happily ever after? Join us to take part in the magic!

Descendants: One Act Edition
July 14-18
Early Bird: $350 // Regular Price: $375

Join the older students to rehearse and perform in a musical based on our favorite little Villains. Our younger performers will be featured in the ensemble of this fractured fairytale! Students will get mini classes on acting, singing, dancing, character development, and we will rehearse to put on our very own production. Lead roles will be cast from upper grade students in the previous week. Students will join the ensemble for the second week of rehearsals and for all performances.

Calling all budding actors! We will create characters, play theater games, and make stories come to life in this acting class perfect for both first-time actors and seasoned performers. Join us for a special showing of what we’ve learned on Friday.

Musical Theatre, here we come! Students play theater games and learn the basics of acting, singing, and dancing. We will showcase select songs and dances at the end of the day on Friday.

Join for a theatrical grab-bag of all the best things our summer camps have to offer. Each day will focus on a different skill or experience. If the students fall in love with one particular day, there are more opportunities later in the summer for them to continue the adventure! Work with experienced artists and experts in their fields as we explore Stage Combat, Improvisation, Costume and Set Design, Acting, and so much more. 

Studies in Shakespeare
June 30-July 2

This special 3-day workshop offers a fun and interactive introduction to the world of Shakespearean drama. Over three exciting days, campers will explore famous characters, classic scenes, and timeless tales through acting, storytelling, and creative play.

Let’s be Rotten to the Core! Whether you are a seasoned performer or this is your first time onstage, there is a spot in the cast for everyone. Students will get mini classes on acting, singing, dancing, and character development from our expert teaching artists as we rehearse to put on our very own production. Roles will be auditioned and assigned during our first 2 days of class. Final performances are on Friday evening and Saturday morning following the class. Please note this camp is two weeks plus three days, due to the longer-than-usual script. Roles will be assigned and scripts passed out prior to the July 4th holiday so actors can practice over the long weekend. 

Acting & Improv

Whose line IS it anyway? Learn the art (and fun) of acting without a script as we improvise our way through games, think on our feet, and create scenes without memorizing a single line! Then switch gears to try out scene work and character development when you have a script in front of you. Exercise those acting muscles in a variety of ways during this exciting combo-camp. No experience necessary.

Continuing our summer of fractured fairytales, don’t miss your chance to bring this Golden Age romp to life! Aspiring actors, singers, and dancers will work together to put on a full-scale musical production. Whether you are a seasoned performer, or this is your first time on stage, there is a spot in the cast for everyone. Students will get mini classes on acting, singing, dancing, and character development from our expert teaching artists as we rehearse to put on our very own production. Roles will be auditioned and assigned during our first 2 days of class. Final performances are on Friday evening and Saturday morning following the class.

Early Bird: $295 // Regular Price: $325 (per session)

Limited to rising 7-10th graders. By popular demand! Each Summer Players production session will now include a limited number of one-week, backstage crew opportunities. Students will help to create scenery, lighting, props, and costumes used in the final performance. The crew will also be backstage during the final performances, serving as stage managers, stagehands, and board operators. No experience necessary, this student team will be led by a theater tech expert who will teach them everything they need to know to run a fantastic show. 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Location:  NextStop Summer Education Programs take place at NextStop Theatre: 269 Sunset Park Drive, Herndon, VA 20170. 

Registration Fees and Payment:   All registration fees must be paid in full at the time of registration. Registration using a credit card is available online. To register and pay by check, please e-mail education@nextstoptheatre.org or call (703)-481-5930×0. (Make checks payable to NextStop Theatre Company. A $25 fee will be charged for returned checks.)

Late Pickup/Fees:  Our program day ends at 4:00pm. After 4:15pm, late fees are assessed at the rate of $1.50 per minute. Late fees are due upon pick up of the student.

Scholarships:  A limited number of need and merit-based scholarships are available.  To be considered, please fill out this application.

Refunds:  A full refund will be issued in the event that a program is canceled for any reason.  A partial refund (minus a non-refundable 25% deposit) is available if a participant is withdrawn more than one month prior to the start date of the program.  

Liability:  NextStop Theatre Company assumes no liability for injuries or damages arising from participation in any class or program.

Photography/Video:  Photos and/or video taken of participants during programs may be used without compensation or further consent of the participants and/or the parents/guardians of the participant.
