What to Expect
We are interested in gathering individuals with varied experiences and backgrounds that reflect our wonderfully diverse Northern Virginia community. Board service requires a commitment of time and effort and may not be for everyone. The questions below help to frame a board member’s responsibilities. If you believe that you have the passion, skills, professional insight, experience, and/or a love of theater that could help us, we want to hear from you!
Over the course of a year, can I devote a minimum of 120 hours per year to the organization (average is about 10 hours per month)?
Will I be comfortable upholding and advocating for NextStop’s mission and values, including important equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility principles?
Do I have personal, community, or business contacts that could be valuable to NextStop?
Do I have particular skills or knowledge that could help the Board?
Will I help with outreach activities aimed at increasing the attendance at NextStop shows and educational programs?
Am I prepared to support fundraising activities to cultivate donors, solicit donations, or host and/or attend events?
Am I excited about becoming part of NextStop and helping to build its vision for the future?
Attend training sessions on NextStop activities, responsibilities of Boards of Directors, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives and Strategic Planning.
Participate in outreach activities to recruit future Directors and other volunteers
Please note that most of the programming decisions of the theater are made by the professional executive staff at The NextStop Theatre. Although such programming decisions, including decisions with respect to the budget are subject to approval of the Board of Directors, the NextStop Theatre Board of Directors are not directly involved in the programming decisions. We are proud to have brilliant professional production and creative staff that are responsible for the amazing programming we have year after year.
